BULLA KI JAANA MAIN KAUN
Find Who You Are | A Sufi Reflection on the Self
A contemporary Sufi adaptation inspired by Bulleh Shah (RA), presented by SufiPulse USA.
Who are you beneath your name, religion, nationality, language, profession, reputation, and inherited identity?
Bulla Ki Jaana Main Kaun begins where labels stop being enough.
The kalam does not erase faith, history, or community. It questions ego that mistakes every label for the whole self.
Bulleh Shah’s voice moves through negation:
not this,
not that,
not the identity others assign,
not even the identity the ego constructs.
What remains is mystery.
“Bulla ki jaana main kaun.”
I do not know who I am.
The confession is not emptiness.
It is humility before the One who knows completely.

◆ WHY THIS WORK
In a world divided by religion, race, nationality, sect, ideology, and inherited belonging, this kalam asks:
Who are you before the argument begins?
It asks whether identity has become a wall against another human being.

◆ EDITORIAL NOTE
Bulla Ki Jaana is often heard as a challenge to rigid identity.
This adaptation preserves that inward challenge without turning Bulleh Shah into a slogan for being “beyond religion.”
His poetry emerged within a Punjabi Sufi and Islamic cultural world.
The point is not that belief becomes meaningless.
It is that no social label, sectarian badge, nationality, or inherited status can fully contain the mystery of a human soul.

◆ WRITER’S NOTE
“Who am I?” is treated here as a spiritual question, not a denial of personal, religious, cultural, or civic identity.
The kalam does not claim that all religions are doctrinally identical.
Its movement is inward:
from certainty about others
toward uncertainty about the ego,
from classification
toward self-examination,
from pride in identity
toward humility before God.
Only God knows the human being completely.
