Meri Khamoshi Teri Saza Banegi begins where silence has been misunderstood. A woman is hurt. Society questions her. The offender hides behind shame, custom, status, or sacred appearance. “My silence will become your punishment.” Not revenge. Reckoning. The silence once imposed upon the wounded becomes testimony, memory, conscience, and eventually voice. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ◆ WHY THIS WORK The composition speaks to women silenced by sexual violence, coercion, harassment, victim-blaming, fear, family pressure, workplace power, and social stigma. Its questions are deliberate: Why was she blamed for studying? For working? For being outside? For what she wore? Why was the scrutiny directed toward her before the person who harmed her? The work places responsibility back upon the act of harm and the person responsible for it. The woman at the center of this work is not defined only by what was done to her. She remains a moral agent whose dignity, voice, future, and right to be heard survive the violence. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ◆ EDITORIAL NOTE This is a Sufi protest against silence around abuse. Its purpose is to confront victim-blaming, misuse of religious language, cultural excuses, and protection of perpetrators through silence. “Sufism stands with the wounded” is the ethical position of this work. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ◆ WRITER’S NOTE “Divine fire,” “Allah as witness,” “the mosque trembling,” “Makkah rejecting,” and punishment being written through tears are poetic and eschatological images. Likewise, invoking Sayyida Zainab (RA) and Yazid is moral symbolism. The composition does not claim that a contemporary survivor literally assumes Zainab’s historical station or that every offender is historically equivalent to Yazid. The demand is accountability.
